The invisible camera operator

How FrameHand works

👀

It sees you

FrameHand uses Apple's on-device Vision framework to detect faces and bodies in the camera feed, locking onto the most prominent subjects in real time. All of it runs on your iPhone's chip — no internet connection, no cloud processing, ever.

🎬

It frames you

A smart viewport crops into the wide camera image and glides to keep you centered as you move — like a camera operator panning to follow you. The motion is smoothed so the shot stays calm instead of twitchy.

💾

It bakes the shot

The framing isn't a preview trick. The crop-and-pan is written directly into the video file as you record, so the clip saved to your Photos library is the finished shot — nothing to crop, stabilize, or re-export afterward.

A recording session, start to finish

  1. Set the phone down. Prop your iPhone anywhere with a wide view of your space — tripod, shelf, vlog rig. The wide frame gives the viewport room to pan.
  2. Start your way. Three triggers, your choice: press the red record button at the bottom center of the screen, tap anywhere with three fingers, or set a countdown timer — 3, 5, or 10 seconds — that gives you time to step into position before recording begins.
  3. Just move. Talk, demonstrate, cross the room. The viewport follows you between positions automatically. Audio records from the iPhone mic or your connected wireless mic.
  4. Stop the same way. Press the record button again or tap anywhere with three fingers — either one ends the recording, so you can stop from across the room without hunting for a button.
  5. It's done. The finished, framed clip lands in your Photos library immediately — ready to edit or post.

Common questions

The screen is black when I open the app▾
FrameHand needs camera and microphone permission to run. Go to Settings → FrameHand and make sure both Camera and Microphone are enabled, then relaunch the app.
How do I start and stop a recording?▾
Three ways: press the red record button at the bottom center of the screen, tap anywhere on the screen with three fingers, or use the countdown timer with 3, 5, or 10 second options if you want time to get into position. Stopping works the same way — press the record button again or three-finger tap anywhere.
Tracking jumps to the wrong person▾
FrameHand prioritizes the most prominent subjects in frame. If other people are visible in the background, position yourself closer to the camera or angle the shot so you're the clearest subject before starting the recording.
Where do my recordings go?▾
Every recording is saved directly to your iPhone's Photos library the moment you stop. FrameHand keeps no copies and uploads nothing — if it's not in Photos, check that FrameHand has permission to add to your photo library in Settings.
How long can a recording last?▾
Sessions of 20–30 minutes are confirmed to work properly, and the screen stays awake for the full recording. Longer sessions — up to a few hours — are expected to work, but depend on your device's resources: available memory and storage, your iOS version, battery, and other apps running at the same time. For long recordings, close background apps and keep plenty of free storage — high-resolution video is large, and iOS will end any recording if the device runs out of space.

Your footage never leaves your phone. FrameHand has no accounts, no analytics, and no servers. All tracking runs on-device, and recordings save only to your Photos library.
